Quotes from leaders in the field of Early Childhood Education

“Most everyone knows that young children need to be challenged academically, and they need to be exposed to literacy, letters and sounds, and literature at an early age—(however) we really need to have an emphasis on all areas of development (cognitive, social and emotional skills).”- Samuel J. Meisels

Expert decision making lies at the heart of effective teaching - Sue Bredekamp (Developmentally Appropriate Practice in Early Childhood Programs).“I’m not here to save the world; I’m here just to make a difference in the community that I’m working”  ~ Raymond Hernandez

  1. I really appreciate the comment by Sue Bredekamp. I feel as if my challenge is getting the teachers to realize how important their analysis of their assesment data is. They will use that analysis to make their expert decisions!

  2. Terri: It is so important that as Early Childhood Professionals that we include all areas of development in our daily activities we provide in our classrooms. When children have a rounded curriculum that covers all aspects I believe they development areas are enhanced. Samuel Meisels says it best. “We really need to have an emphasis on all areas of development (cognitive, social and emotional skills).”

  3. I like your comment Terri, literacy is very important with young children. The curriculum that I work with is literacy based, and has been beneficial for my students in the past. I can see the importance of tending to all subjects.

  4. I love the quote by Raymond Hernandez. Most educators would love to save the world but we must start one block at a time. It took me several years to understand that.
